“Pineapple bun (Bolo Bao) is my favourite Hong Kong style pastry that is typically eaten for breakfast or afternoon tea. The bun is light and pillowy, and the topping is sweet and crunchy, resembling the texture of pineapple! Often served warm with a giant slab of butter inside, Bolo Bao reminds me of my childhood Saturdays after Chinese and coaching school.
I have fond memories of my dad taking my sister and I to the local HK-style bakery as a reward, where I would happily pick out a pineapple bun for the drive home while he whistled to Anita Mui’s classic hits.
Recently, I discovered that Canton, my favourite Cha Chang Teng in Eastwood, serves it up with butter (Bolo Yau). Pair it with a HK style coffee or milk tea from their Breakfast/Afternoon tea special menu to brighten your day!”
