FRIED RICE NOODLE w/ BEEF & BEAN SPROUTS

BY WILLIAM NGHIEM

“Back when I would use to work for my Dad and projects were near the Kingsford area, we would always get lunch from Dong Dong Noodles. To this day, my order has been the same, fried rice noodle with beef & bean sprouts (with egg noodles instead of the rice noodles), a side of fresh chopped chillies and siracha sauce. It's such a great feed that won't hurt your wallet and will leave you feeling all nice and warm on the inside.”

PORK FLOSS ROLL & GRASS JELLY DRINK

BY NAM NGUYEN

“As a kid roaming around Cabramatta, passing by an Asian bakery was the perfect spot for a quick refuel. Whether you’re procrastinating on your way to Maths tuition or sneaking in snacks while grocery shopping, the classic pork-floss roll and grass jelly drink combo still hold ups as one of my go-to moves.”

BUKKAKE ONTAMA WITH SIDES AND GREEN TEA

BY MURIEL OF STUDIO MIMU

“Mappen is bliss; the perfect place to go when you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. We find ourselves here almost every week, going through the ritual of inspecting the menu (only to order the same dishes every time), perusing the extra toppings (always ordering than we can possibly eat) and trying to get the largest spoonfuls of tempura bits we can (limited to one scoop per customer). The modest prices are an attractive selling point to newcomers and a blessing to their regulars.

Mappen embodies the generosity, attention to detail and welcoming ambience we miss about Japan. Coming here doesn’t replace our trips through the quaint diners of Tokyo, but what Mappen does better than most places in the CBD is quality control. With the world in such an unpredictable state, there is calm and joy to be found in a bowl of udon noodles, shallow-bathed with a few soft-boiled eggs.”
